About
Welcome to Mattarello Bolognese Restaurant, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of London at 3 Middlesex St, E1 7AA. This charming establishment is renowned for its authentic Italian cuisine, particularly its handmade pasta, crafted with love and tradition. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped by a tranquil atmosphere that makes it an ideal spot for a romantic date night or a cozy meal with friends.
At the heart of Mattarello’s menu is a celebration of Bologna's culinary heritage. You must try the Tagliatelle tirate al mattarello con Ragu Bolognese, a classic dish that offers a taste of history, where the meat and tomato sauce are slow-cooked for over six hours. Each bite hints at the meticulous care that goes into every recipe, available for only £15.90. For something comforting yet innovative, the Lasagne verdi alla Bolognese presents green lasagna layered with rich Bolognese ragu and creamy béchamel sauce for £16.90. Don't forget to explore their unique twists, like the Tagliatelle di castagne con guanciale, porri e pecorino, which combines chestnut pasta with bacon, leeks, and pecorino cheese for a lush flavor experience at £18.90.
For those seeking a fill of extraordinary filled pasta, the menu does not disappoint. The Piccoli Tortellini, offered as a chef's special for £24.00, or the tender Tortelloni ripieni di ricotta con funghi—stuffed with ricotta and served with a sumptuous mushroom sauce—are perfect for sharing or indulging in solo at £17.90.
What sets Mattarello apart is its thoughtful approach to dietary restrictions. The entire menu is designed to accommodate gluten-free diners, which has won the hearts of many. Notably, the restaurant uses a separate kitchen for gluten-free pasta, ensuring safety and flavor without compromise—a rarity that is deeply appreciated, especially by those with coeliac disease.
Quench your thirst with one of their carefully crafted cocktails. Sip on a refreshing Aperol Spritz, perfect for starting your evening, or relish the robust flavors in an Old Fashioned. It's clear that every detail—from the curated drink menu to the attentive service provided by staff like Bruno—adds to a memorable dining experience.
In conclusion, Mattarello Bolognese Restaurant is not merely a place to dine but a celebration of Italian culture and warmth. With its unparalleled attention to ingredient quality and customer service, this restaurant is sure to leave you enchanted. Join the ranks of satisfied diners, who have made it a go-to for special occasions and casual nights alike. I wholeheartedly recommend treating yourself here; you will find every dish a delightful encounter!
“ Location is perfect, 2 minuets off of the Main Street and a nice quiet location. Atmosphere is really nice whether indoors or out. Owner and staff are very nice and accommodating. Food was made just right and worth every penny. Perfect for a date night in London ”
“ A beautiful and tranquil atmosphere, perfect for a date. The food was absolutely on point—not just Italian food, but the best Italian food. Sandra and Imma gave us an amazing customer experience, making the night even more special. I’ll definitely be coming back. Plus, the location is perfect! ”
“ Great restaurant for those under gluten-free diet by choice, allergy, or coeliac. The gluten-free dishes were all amazing and far superior to the regular plates. If you visit, do choose the gluten-free version instead of regular. The white wine glass was also good and better than I expected when not ordering a bottle. ”
“ The whole menu is gluten-free! What an unusual experience, allowing a member of the party to enjoy italian food! Non GF pasta, etc, available on request. Friendly staff, which are keen to help you enjoy excellent food. The friggione is outstanding, and when paired with burrata and small itailian bread parcel ( cestino bolognese), it was a simple joy and a great sharing dish. ”
“ A Gluten-Free Gem with No Compromises Went out looking for a gluten-free dinner and stumbled upon an amazing Italian restaurant that offers both regular and gluten-free options! Mattarello Bolognese has an entire menu that caters to both, without compromising anything! For those of us who are usually left with limited or less-than-appetizing choices, this place is a complete game-changer. Mattarello’s gluten-free menu is extensive, flavorful, and genuinely enjoyable. Even better, for those with coeliac disease, they use a separate kitchen for preparing gluten-free pasta and display the Coeliac UK logo right on the menu, so you know they take it seriously. The attention to detail feels like a consistent theme at Mattarello’s, it’s evident not only in the food but also in the inviting decor and the outstanding service. Bruno, our waiter, was exceptionally kind, professional, and attentive. I had the Balanzoni as my main, the chocolate tortino for dessert, and we also shared the salad, cestino (the puffy bread), and burrata e friggione, everything was absolutely delicious. We’re already planning to return for my husband’s birthday, on his request, and he’s not gluten-free. That says everything! ”
“ Easily my favorite Italian restaurant in the UK. Excellent for gluten free stomachs. I come every time I’m in London and I’ve never been disappointed! The bread - don’t even get me started on the BREAD. I ordered some to go last time. The chestnut tagliatelle with leek and bacon ”
“ Traditional food from Bologna, quality was great and also the service, maybe it was too quiet when I walked in. But worth the visit. Had crescentine con burrata e friggione, tagliatelle al ragu and tortino al cioccolato. ”
“ Gluten-free free Italian restaurant. I have difficulty finding food with my Celiacs, and this place was amazing! Food was completely gluten-free and not to mention delicious. Ordered more bread to take back to the hotel, too. ”
